Desription

Many prokaryotic and eukaryotic DNA-binding proteins use a helix-turn-helix (HTH) structure for DNA recognition. The Pipsqueak(Psq) DNA-binding motif is found in four copies in the pipsqueak protein of Drosophila melanogaster. In pipsqueak this domain binds to GAGA sequence. The pipsqueak family, which includes proteins from fungi, sea urchins, nematodes, insects, and vertebrates appear to be proteins essential for sequence-specific targeting of a polycomb group protein complex.
